Curiosities of the gaucho

Did you know? The word “gaucho” has its origin in those men who were agile cattle breeders and possessed great skills in strength and speed.

The citizens of the pampas, in the Río de la Plata, which occupy a large part of Argentina and Uruguay, were called “gauchos. To this name correspond typical customs and dresses. The gauchos created a very distinctive way of speaking, music, songs and dances. With time, the social and economic transformations of La Pampa modified their ways of life and work. The true gaucho was disappearing, but the legend remained. The ideal type has been preserved in literature and tradition, with its vitality and strength as a symbol, just as it was in reality.
